Women Directors Programme 

BUILDING THE FOUNDATION

 

The foundational programme started as a pilot project in 2012. Today, more than 700 women have participated in the programme. This highly successful programme is designed to provide the skills senior women executives need to serve successfully as board members and offers practical guidance for landing a seat at the table.

 

The content of this Programme is designed with the woman director in mind – harnessing her natural female talents, identifying gender barriers and setting the expectations for board work.

 

Admission to the programme is limited to individuals with specific or board experience.  All applications will be subject to review and approval from the Admission Committee.

  • The Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members
  • Understanding Corporate Governance and Why it matters?

DAY 2

  • Introduction to Public Company and Securities Market Regulation
  • Understanding Board Dynamics & the importance of Board Presence

DAY 3

  • The board opportunity – group coaching on Board Profile development,  tips on Interview and the board recruitment process
  • The Board Simulation Exercise –  Opportunity to participate in “The Board Meeting” where a business case is presented to board members for deliberation and decision.

The Faculty

ANNE ABRAHAM
Chief Executive Officer, LeadWomen

 

Anne is the CEO of LeadWomen, a leadership development and consulting company, focused on developing and advancing women leaders in Asia.

 

With over 25 years of corporate experience in leadership positions across multi-functional units, she started as a technical trainer, and over the years has trained and coached her management & leadership teams. She has mentored many executives in the course of her career and continues this in her current capacity.

 

She is currently the lead facilitator for the softskills modules that are delivered on the Malaysian Women Directors Programme, a government initiative to increase women representation on boards of Malaysian PLCs. Anne has facilitated more than 200 workshops and trained over 700 senior women leaders for the past 2.5 years.

 

Prior to LeadWomen, she was the CEO of SAP and Cisco Malaysia. She was successful at building high-performance executive teams and leading technology and service organizations with P&L responsibility of US$100+ million.

 

A strong advocate and supporter for women leadership development, she is a frequent guest speaker and moderator in Women conferences and summits.

 

Anne serves on the Boards of Media Prima Berhad and Metrod as an Independent Non-Executive Director.  She is also a member of Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Women Entrepreneurs Panel and co-founder of the Malaysian Chapter of the 30% Club.

SAMANTHA TAI YIT CHAN
Managing Director, Boardroom Corporate Services 

 

Ms Samantha Tai is a Fellow Member of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) and has over 20 years of experience in corporate secretarial work. Samantha has provided extensive in-house training for directors of public listed companies (“PLCs”) and is a regular speaker for seminars organised by MAICSA, Companies Commission of Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance, Federation of Public Listed Companies, Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Malaysian Investor Relations Association (MIRA), Securities Industry Development Corporation, Bursa Malaysia and other professional bodies/organisations.

 

She has extensive experience in corporate secretarial requirements and provides advisory services including due diligence reviews for corporate restructuring and related services such as IPOs, governance related advisory including Board assessment to clients of PLCs, liquidation and preparation of circulars for submission to Bursa Malaysia. Ms Samantha Tai is also a Board member of MIRA.

DEVANESAN EVANSON
Trainer/Facilitator

 

Devanesan is a qualified accountant (FCCA) who is also a Chartered Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He also holds a law degree (LLB Hons) from the University of London. He is a fellow member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (FIIA) where he currently serves as a Governor of the Board.

 

He is also the past- President of the ACCA Advisory Committee, the past-President of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia and a past-Council Member of the Malaysia Institute of Accountants.

 

Devanesan retired from Bursa Malaysia in 2010 after serving Bursa Malaysia for eighteen years. He started his career at Bursa Malaysia as Head of Internal Audit and Risk Management. He was also, at one time, the Chief Regulatory Officer and later, the Chief Market Operations Officer of Bursa Malaysia.

 

Subsequent to his retirement from Bursa Malaysia in 2010, he spent 1.5 years at Ernst & Young as a Director at their Advisory Services.

 

Currently, Devanesan is a trainer/facilitator in the areas of corporate governance, risks, controls, Listing Requirements, boardroom performance, ethics and other governance and capital market subjects.

 

He is also the trainer for one of the modules of the MAP (Mandatory Accreditation Programme), the 1.5 day training that every director of a Listed Company must attend. He is also a regular trainer for the SIDC (Securities Industry Development Corporation), the training arm of the Securities Commission, especially for the SIDC’s CMDP (Capital Market Development Programme) which every director of a capital market intermediary must attend.

 

Devanesan started his career in 1979 at the public accounting firm, Hanafiah Raslan & Mohamad, where he was an external auditor for six years. He has both external and internal audit experience.

PUN TIAN-POUW
Principal Partner, Korn Ferry

 

Mr. Pun possesses more than two decades of experience in regional consulting and corporate HR experiences in assessment and development, change management, leadership search, mergers and acquisitions, organization change and transformation, and talent management. He has also worked with senior management-level clients throughout Asia Pacific including India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

 

Prior to joining Korn Ferry, Mr. Pun was the group human resources general manager for Hong Leong Group, one of Malaysia's largest conglomerates. Before that, he was the consulting practice lead for Hewitt Associates' talent and leadership engagement practice in Malaysia.

 

Mr. Pun started his career with Andersen Consulting in Malaysia. During his tenure, he was the senior consulting manager for the organization and human performance group, specializing in the financial services industry, as a regional HR lead Asia, and as a quality-ISO9001 manager.

 

Mr. Pun holds a post-grad diploma in human resource management from the University of Malaya and a bachelor's degree from Monash University, Austrialia. In addition, he is also a certified practitioner in NLP-NS (Neurolingustic Programming-Neuro Semantics).

 

DATO' ABDUL AZIZ
Chief Executive Officer, Minda

 

Dato’ Abdul Aziz was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malaysian Directors Academy (MINDA) from 1 October 2009 until 3 October 2016. Prior to his appointment as MINDA’s first CEO, Dato’ Aziz was the Chief Human Capital Officer at Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), a position he occupied for five years before his retirement in September 2009.

 

He has also served in various senior positions across a number of industries including banking, oil & gas and aviation. Prior to his stint in TM, Dato’ Aziz was the Executive VP, HR Division of RHB Bank Berhad from 2001 to 2004. Before that, Dato’ Aziz spent 20 years in Shell Malaysia in various management positions in Internal & Computing Audit, Marketing Economics, Sales, Supply & Planning and HR.

 

In 1991, he was assigned to an international posting to Shell Group Head Office in London where he held the position of the shareholders’ representative overseeing Shell’s business interests in Hong Kong and China. He was made the General Manager of HR and Transformation for ASEAN countries upon his return.

 

Prior to joining Shell Malaysia, he was a Fleet Planning Coordinator with Malaysian Airlines Systems Berhad (MAS) where he began his career in 1977. Dato’ Aziz holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from the University of Malaya.
